***

I will go on record immediately that I love this game and have played it through many times over the years. So when I heard about the TV show I was very excited.

I will admit that at first I was unsure about some of the casting choices, however it was clear very early on that each person played their parts beautifully. Both Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal did an amazing job in the lead roles. Gabriel Luna also played a great Tommy. Yet my heart could not stop the happiness when I saw the video game voice actors, Merle Dandridge as the same character Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce the original Tommy as  Perry. And of course, the amazing Ashley Johnson, the original Ellie, playing a new character of Anna and last but definately not least, the incredible Troy Baker, the voice of Joel himself playing James.

The storyline follows the game almost perfectly, with additions that I mostly agreed with.

From the opening episode with the tv show interviews it was clear that they were not only setting up information for those who had not played the game, but also adding more detailed information about the virus and the potential threat it posed. Rewatching the show it is clear that throughout this first episode many easter eggs were hinted at that would have deep implications later.

Each episode had its merits and only one I really just did not care for, see the worst episode for details. I will say that I really liked the added elements to Bill and Frank's story, however I wished that the attack on his compound would have been a bigger threat than it was.

Best Episode - Endure and Survive - Strictly for the bloater and infected attack that occurs.

Worst Episode - Please Hold to My Hand - It was nice to see the other factions, but I feel way too much time was spent with them. I did not care for the extra characters.

The biggest criticism I can say is, and from what I understand a lot of other people felt the same, is that the creature threat is very minimal when compared to the game as well as other zombie/creature tv shows. This is why I have to say that the episode with the most creatures was my favorite.

Final Thoughts

Overall I really loved this season. It brought to life a game that I love and although it was not perfect, it was close enough for me. I have already rewatched it a few times, skipping only the one episode I hated and watching the creature scenes.

Score:  8.5 out of 10. Great addition to the franchise and well worth rewatching.

Always Keep Fighting.

You Are Enough.
