Iron Flame (The Fourth Wing Book 2) by Rebecca Yarros

Published:   November 7th, 2023.

Genre: Fantasy, Romantic fantasy, Fantasy Fiction, Romance novel, High fantasy

Rating:  R - violence, torture, sexual content

Synopsis:  Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College―Violet included. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

***

I’m so happy I was able to jump right into book 2 as it continues pretty much right where it left off from the first.

That being said I was a little nervous that early on (no spoilers) they decided to head back to the school and I got huge Harry Potter ‘let’s get going back to the school at the start of the next year after almost being killed’ every single book vibes. I seriously prayed that this would not be that type of series. I am so glad I was right.

That being said it is hard to give feedback without spoilers regarding the storyline, but I will say that the continued story does a great job of showing both the characters and dragon abilities amazingly.

A lot of twists and turns in this one as well as some great action scenes. There were a few moments where I yelled out loud as well as cursed a few times, which meant I was engaged and so happy I ignored any spoilers previously.

Personally I felt the first one was slightly better, however the margin is very small as I think we are still learning this world and how things work, just like Violet. And she gets to showcase not only her amazing abilities but also her scribe knowledge that helps more than she thinks..

I heard that they are hoping to turn into a TV Show or Movie and after reading book 2 I think a TV show would be amazing for this type of detailed world, as long as they stay close to the material provided.

Final Thoughts

Overall I love this world and it was a pleasure coming back to it. I’m a little nervous that they are setting up any future books to be disappointing yet it will depend on the decisions made in continuing the story. This one however was a win from me as the last battle was just epic and heartbreaking.

Score: 8.5 out of 10. Highly recommended for dragon lovers.

Always Keep Fighting.

You Are Enough.
