***
As soon as I saw the trailer for this movie, I was hooked. It has an interesting premise and creatures to boot.
The entire cast did a great job, but the leads, Morena Baccarin as Nina, Anthony Mackie as Will, and Maddie Hasson as Katie, brought their game to the story, and it showed. The characters' complicated histories were played out perfectly, and I could feel their emotions as if I were part of their group.
The setting and cinematography are beautiful, though, after the first few minutes, you can tell it is pretty basic in terms of creature movies - somehow there are creatures so the humans are trying to survive. Still, they are pushed into situations where they have to cross paths.
However, I was very impressed with the survival aspects they showed, such as the air being thinner at the 8,000 ft elevation so they were not all running around like it was no big deal, or how everyone actually looked like they were living on limited supplies. Most movies tend to overlook the basics but they fully embrace the survival aspect and it added layers that were a breath of fresh air.
Final Thoughts
Overall I feel this was a great addition to the creature movie genre. A few tense moments and a jumpscare or two, but nothing that was overused. Though it won’t win any awards it has won me over.
Score: 8 out of 10. Great creature design and an overall great adventure. Will own this one.
Always Keep Fighting.
You Are Enough.
