The juice is loose once again and this time it brings a teenage daughter along for the ride.
I was torn about viewing this movie as the first is a classic and I hate the idea that they would ruin it. Thankfully it was better than I thought it would be. Having most of the original cast definitely helped. Each original cast member fell into their roles seamlessly and picked up right where they left off. Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder were simply a joy to watch as mother and daughter once again.
On the other hand, a huge disappointment for me was some of the new characters they introduced. Though Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux tried hard to blend in with the others it did not work. Jenna felt more like her character Wednesday, just wearing other colors at times and Justin was just annoying and someone you wanted Beetlejuice to play with.
I have to mention the trailer villain, Delores, played by Monica Bellucci. Though beautiful and very intense in many scenes her final confrontation with Beetlejuice was just pathetic. What was hyped up throughout the entire movie as a grand battle ended up a joke? I asked myself several times after the movie ended what exactly her purpose was.
For me, the winning factor for this movie was Michael Keaton who played Beetlejuice beautifully and really brought back the magic from the original movie. Every line was delivered with conviction, humor, and the darkness we love about the character and he did not disappoint. I heard someone say that Beetlejuice is great in small doses and that is what helped the movie as they used him the best way they could and I could not agree more.
Final Thoughts
This was truly a great ride though narrowing down the storylines would definitely have helped it along. And a million percent, Delores should have been the main villain in this one. Such a shame.
Overall 7 out of 10. Fans of the original Beetlejuice will like it. Will not own this one and will most likely only see it once.
Always Keep Fighting.
You Are Enough.
