Hawkeye - TV Mini Series 2021
Genre: Action, Adventure, Crime, Mystery
Rating: TV 14
Synopsis: Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton's past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
To be crystal clear and upfront Hawkeye is my least favorite avenger. I mean when you compare him to the others he is, for lack of a better term, basic. Although being a badass ninja, archer and former assassin is definitely not something most would consider so. Compared to other regular people he is beyond awesome, but when compared to someone who can control lightening it's different.
Anyway on to the series.
In order to understand what is going on in this series, you need to have watched at least the original Avengers movie as well as Avengers Endgame. Both have clear references that otherwise you will not understand. There is also a character that is brought in that unless you've watched the other movies/TV shows you may not realize the magnitude of the situation. As I'm unable to give away spoilers I can't go into more detail, but as all the marvel movies and tv show link, you can see that it would make sense that other characters would pop up. Since I'm a huge Marvel fan I've seen pretty much all the TV shows and movies so I knew who everyone was and let me tell you it was an awesome reveal.
Without giving too much away the synopsis pretty much sums up the 'season'. If you can call just 6 episodes a season. They did say it's a mini-series so I wasn't expecting 18 or more, but still a little disappointing for the amount, though after all the action scenes I can see why.
Hailee and Jeremy work so well together that it's extremely entertaining. Sure there are some cheesy moments and you can pretty much figure out a few things before the end, yet they still made the journey fun together. I honestly can't wait to see where they take this in the future.
The storyline and plot is great for what it is.
Is it a story that I needed explaining or closure on? No.
Is it a story that I thought could maybe be interesting to learn about? Yes.
Was it approached in an interesting way to show how we got to this point? No.
Basically, the plot made sense and made for lots of action and crazy situations. Was the story needing to be told? Not at all. If they would have approached this same storyline from another angle I think it could have been something better, but since they wanted to introduce a new character it needed to go the way it did.
Final Thoughts
It is a typical Marvel movie. Lots of action, a little mystery, shenanigans, and lots of back talking. The action scenes are amazing and each actor gave their all to their characters which made them believable and heartfelt. Was it worth watching? Yes. Absolutely. If you're a fan of the character or the avengers in general, yes. Is it worth watching more than once? No.
However, I hope they do make more because of the chemistry between our leads. They really were just so freaking fun to watch.
