Synopsis: Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Galinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.

Disclaimer: I’ve never seen the musical and going into the movie knew nothing about the plot and only vaguely 2 songs. 

Right off the bat, I was on Team Green as I hate bullies. Yet I have to say the harshness of the opening definitely pulled me in.

The library scene had me cringing as I’m a huge book lover, but all the songs were amazing during the entire movie. 

Though I have nothing to compare the performances story or character-wise, high praise goes to both Ariana Grande as Galinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba in their respective roles. Ariana, of course, took to the songs like a fish to water and although I had never heard Cynthia sing before the vocals for both were incredibly powerful, and even though it was the first time hearing most of the songs I could feel the emotion through each. 

Honestly, I was super skeptical of everyone posting videos of crying at the end of the movie but yeah, I was right there with them so make sure you have tissues. Just WOW!

In my opinion, this was an interesting take on the classic OZ story as a prequel. However, it does raise some interesting questions about what part 2 will show and how the story of the original may be changed in some ways to accommodate it.

Final Thoughts

Overall it was a great movie. The cast, songs, and story were interesting enough to keep me entertained through the slower parts and once it picked up there was no stopping it. However, it was clear how the ending would play out the closer it got. Intrigued to see what happens next but I still hate the 'to be continued' nonsense.

Score: 9 out of 10. Recommend to those who like musicals and fans of the play.

Cabinet of Curiosities - 2022 Netflix Original

  Genre:  Drama, Horror, Mystery Rating:  TV-MA Synopsis:  Bizarre nightmares unfold in eight tales of terror in a visually stunning, spine-tingling horror collection curated by Guillermo del Toro. As a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro, I had high hopes for this. The opening is visually stunning and the music reminds me of the nightmare before Christmas.  There are some huge stars present and regardless of the story, I personally think everyone did an incredible job showing each character. The problem with a collection of short stories, such as this, is you run into a time problem. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous - Season 5 - Netflix Original

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Family, Science Fiction Rating: TV PG Synopsis: Teens attending an adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar must band together to survive when dinosaurs wreak havoc on the island. Previous seasons do need to be watched to understand the relationships between the group and what they've been through so far.  If you've seen the Jurassic World movies, including the most recent it will add some missing details but it's not necessary to watch them before.  I would recommend watching the Jurassic World Dominion movie before the last episode so that some revelations during the show will make sense and will avoid spoilers if you haven't seen the movie.  Season 5 is the last season so it had high expectations to finish with a bang and wrap up any loose ends.
