***
Part Two wastes no time in jumping right back into the world of Arrakis and the war for control of the spice. If you have read the original book or watched the older movie version you will have some idea of where the story is going.
However, without spoilers, the ending does not match the book exactly, so even if you know, you will not know everything.
Like the first movie, the cast is brilliant and plays to their characters extremely well. Timothée Chalamet is still crushing it as the main character Paul. The introduction of the newest character, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen played by Austin Butler added the right amount of threat. I do have to shout out, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan who brought a good performance, yet personally, I just did not really care too much about her character.
The plot in this one is simple once you break it down, however, you can tell the story was made in the days of deep science fiction and vast universes. The 1984 movie, though a classic in its way, is softer in many aspects making this one a harsh contrast in places. In some ways, I liked the harsher take and it came across as more 'realistic', as much as a science fiction movie can at least.
Final Thoughts
Overall I thought the movie was good. Creatures, world-building, and still lots of action, I just didn’t agree with some storyline moments that demised the grand scheme for me.
The first movie I rated 9 out of 10, whereas this one was potentially lower. Still enjoyable and I'll probably buy it but not as good as the first in my opinion. I'm torn about the upcoming Dune 3 as I know where the story will lead, however, I'm interested to know where they take it.
Score: 8 out of 10. Recommend if you like the first one and will buy it as part of the franchise.
Always Keep Fighting.
You Are Enough.
