***
I finally watched Trap last night and I have to say, it was better than some of Nights other works but definitely not one of the best.
Without spoilers, though the trailers leave little to the imagination, Josh Harnett was amazing as a Dad just taking his kid to the concert of her dreams while harboring a secret. And Ariel Donoghue, who plays said daughter, is just having a great time at a concert, not knowing what is going on all around her. Being oblivious in this case is not a bad thing as it matches her character's energy perfectly and when the inevitable happens it is great to see her reactions.
All the other actors did great, but at times some felt forced and not in a - I'm in character- type way.
Overall, it is a fascinating premise though, and was a fun ride, which is why I would put it middle ground for Night's other work. At times it was hard to decide if we were rooting for the right person or not and I kinda loved that.
The one character that rubbed me the wrong way in this one was Lady Raven, played by Saleka Shyamalan. While the actress did a great job with what she was given overall, her character was just beyond stupid towards the end. I seriously got to the point where I was kinda rooting for her not to survive. I mean I know it's a movie but at the same time a little common sense, please.
Overall, I would say worth a watch and I may even buy it later. Definitely not a horror in my opinion. More of a mystery/thriller type.
Final Thoughts
With the interesting premise and great characters, I actually liked this movie way more than I thought I would. Seeing everything from that perspective was something else and while kinda unnerving, it was also kinda fun.
Score: 7 out of 10 for me. Rewatchable, fun ride, and will potentially own it later.
Always Keep Fighting.
You Are Enough.
