***

You all know what a huge Alien fan I am so when this came out I wasted no time in going to see it at the theatre. All the movies in the franchise have been hit or miss for me, but for this one, I have mixed feelings.

They tried to include so many things that the story at times felt jumbled and though including one or two callbacks to the original Alien movie was welcomed and pretty cool. However, including one of the cast members was, in my opinion, a big mistake. Without giving away spoilers it is hard to discuss this aspect of the movie, however since it happens early on, you can pretty much predict some of the outcome of the meeting.

I sincerely appreciated going back to the practical effects and what they were trying to do, but sadly there were times it shined amazingly, and other times that CGI may have been a better choice.

The high note for this movie was definitely the Xenomorph itself and the two main characters. What can I say about the xenomorph without sounding like a fangirl? Nothing. Just perfection. The chest burster and scene before the big reveal were questionable, but the final reveal did not disappoint.

Cailee Spaeny, who played Rain, crushed it. And although Ripley has huge shoes to fill she stepped up and felt like a younger version who has not yet found her badassness but is forced to find her inner strength as the events unfold.

The absolute highest praise has to go to David Jonsson, who played Andy. Honestly, I can not rave about his performance enough. He steps into a role that some seasoned actors would find intimidating and simply knocks it out of the park. Everything his character did was completely believable and in turn, his scenes were some of the best to watch. From his voice, body language, and mannerisms.
Just perfection.

If you are familiar with other Alien movies there is a thing in recent movies towards the end that fans either love or hate. Since I do not want to give anything away all I will say to any directors out there that want to continue the franchise is stop it. When you have perfection there is nothing that can compete. So just stop it.

Final Thoughts

Definitely will add to the collection since I personally feel it was still better than some of the prequels, but my hubby gave it a 6 and said one time was enough. I think it's still worth checking out and being part of the collection.

Overall  7 out of 10. Just for David's performance alone, I would even consider bumping it up to 8 out of 10. Definitely will own this one.

Always Keep Fighting.

You Are Enough.
