Cabinet of Curiosities - 2022 Netflix Original

Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery

Rating: TV-MA

Synopsis: Bizarre nightmares unfold in eight tales of terror in a visually stunning, spine-tingling horror collection curated by Guillermo del Toro.

As a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro, I had high hopes for this. The opening is visually stunning and the music reminds me of the nightmare before Christmas.

There are some huge stars present and regardless of the story, I personally think everyone did an incredible job showing each character. The problem with a collection of short stories, such as this, is you run into a time problem. Some stories did not get enough time, while others wasted time on things that did not progress fast enough for the time allotted.

Here is a quick breakdown of my thoughts for each episode.

Lot 36 - A very slow start and quick end. Lots of build up very little reward, but the monster was cool. 6 out of 10.

Graveyard Rats - Very cool visuals, great story, and straight to the point. Great creature design. 8 out of 10.

The Autopsy- Intriguing setup, great storyline, and kept me invested. Wow ending. 8 out of 10.

The Outside - Slow start and honestly boring. If it wasn't part of the series I would have stopped watching. Just weird with a dumb ending. 3 out of 10.

Pickman's Model - The artwork that is shown is just breathtaking. Kudos to the real artist. An intriguing story but felt lackluster in the finale. 6 out of 10.

Dreams in the Witch House - Great creature design and great storyline but left some unanswered questions. 8 out 10.

The Viewing - Intriguing opening. But oh my gosh, dragged on forever. A long trip for no reward. 4 out of 10.

The Murmuring - Emotional roller-coaster with some great jump scares. Very different than the other episodes but still great. 7 out of 10.

Best - The Autopsy = Great set up and fantastic delivery.

Worst - The Outside = It made no sense and was boring.

Final Thoughts

Overall I was a little disappointed. Although I will say that the creature designs were just as glorious as I hoped they would be. There are a few I will definitely revisit as they contained a great story, a great creature, and just an amazing overall experience. Since some of them scored so low it is hard to give an overall score, because some of them really do deserve to be higher.

7.8 out of 10. I highly recommend this for creature fans. Not for the faint of heart.

Always Keep Fighting.

You Are Enough.
