Prey - 2022

Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Thriller

Rating: R

Synopsis: A skilled Comanche warrior protects her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against the wilderness, dangerous colonizers, and this mysterious creature to keep her people safe.

I'm a huge Predator fan so when I saw this trailer I had high hopes, with a hint of oh-please-let-it-be-good. I was admittedly very nervous about 1 person going toe to toe with a Predator, as we saw what happened last time and it was Arnie. Over the years the Predator franchise has had a few hits and misses. However, this one for me was a hit.

I'll admit before this movie I was a fan of Amber Midthunder from Roswell, New Mexico. I knew her acting skills were better than in the TV show so I'm glad she got a chance to show what she can do. The other actors I was not familiar with, however, everyone crushed their roles and I was rooting for them.

The Predator effects were amazing and pretty good with using better tech than the time the movie was based, but still more advanced than the humans it hunted. The movie did a great storyline including their first encounter and the other things it had hunted until now.

The only sad thing about this movie were two things. The predator design is one. Though he looked awesome with his mask on, there were definitely some strange options when it came to the face design and the reason behind him even wearing a mask. The first movie set the creature design and the reasons why decades ago, why does changing the design also mean changing the reason for it? Did not make sense to me or my hubby.

The other thing was switching languages constantly. Now I'm all for showing different cultures and including them in movies, books, and TV shows, but jumping back and forth can be very distracting. Especially for people who have a hard time with subtitles. I personally don't mind subtitles and find it better when movies pick which language they want to do and stay with that the entire time. It helps keep everyone at the moment.

For a stand-alone movie and a first introduction to the Predator, it was a hit for me. Great fight scenes, everyone did a great job and it worked.

As part of the overall series of Predator movies, was it the best edition? No. Was it the worst? No. If you love the Predator creature then it's worth a watch for sure. Also, pay close attention towards the end of the movie and you may notice a throwback to a previous movie. I thought it was really cool.

Final Thoughts

I've already said it was a hit for me. The actors did a great job and the fight scenes were just epic. I'm so happy that they actually showed how someone who is smaller could outwit someone like the Predator. I was honestly worried they were going to have to do crazy things to make it work but was pleasantly surprised. Amber kicked ass.

7.5 out of 10. Recommend for those who love the Predator movies. Will purchase.

Always Keep Fighting.

You Are Enough.
