Published: July 16, 2012
Genre: Science Fiction, Dystopian, Mystery, Adventure
Rating: PG13
Synopsis: The Trials are over. WICKED have collected all the information they can. Now it's up to the Gladers to complete the blueprint for the cure to the Flare with a final voluntary test.
But something has happened that no one at WICKED has foreseen: Thomas has remembered more than they think. And he knows WICKED can't be trusted ...
The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than anyone could have imagined.
This book starts off where we last left Thomas, alone in a room. And this time he is taking no chances. Finally, he has had enough and refuses to trust anything about Wicked.
About damn time if you ask me. That last book...ugh.
This book was a complete shift from the last as right away the story feels more thought through and executed in a way that gives you plenty of action, but also human moments that I loved from the first book. Each character plays their part perfectly and reacts exactly how you think they would.
If you have watched the movie, you know that this book has some pretty heartbreaking scenes and even though the situations were different, they still hit the way you want them to. Of course one scene, in particular, no one wanted to happen.
One thing about the book I will say is that I can see why they chose to make these books into movies and make the changes that they did. It is a great story and has some amazing creatures but overall there is so much that is just way overcomplicated.
No spoilers but I personally think the book did a way better job of showing Brenda and Thomas's development way better than the movie. I hate what the movie did to them. And I will say it again, Teresa's storyline is much better in the movie, though I still hate her.
Final Thoughts
I liked this book almost as much as the first. It brought back the action that I loved, as well as plenty of suspense and character interactions that weren't long expositions. The heartbreaking scenes were hard to read but then they added more conflict for our characters that weren't more trials.
7 out of 10. Great character development and definitely worth buying. I will read it multiple times.
Always Keep Fighting.
You Are Enough.
